Cello-playing black belt fights off attacker

March 22, 2010

Who says musicians aren’t tough?

Earlier this month, a female cello player at the University of Illinois was practicing in the university Music Building late on a Saturday night.

A man dressed in a hooded sweatshirt jumped out from behind a stairwell door, ambush style, and grabbed her around the neck.

The musician, also a black belt in tae kwon do, threw an elbow into the man’s body, followed by a back kick. The suspect fled.

The attack was one of four this month on or near the University of Illinois campus.

The black belt cello player was the only one who escaped the attacks unharmed.
