Elbow in the gut saves 81-year-old burglary victim

April 14, 2010

Criminals searching for easy victims prey on the old … and sometimes they pay an unexpected price.

A team of three suspects targeted an 81-year-old earlier this month as she was taking out her garbage. Two men slipped inside her home, a third stood behind to run interference.

When the woman attempted to enter her home, the third man identified himself as an employee of the electric company and asked her if he could read her electric meter. When she attempted to go inside, he grabbed her by the coat to stop her.

The elderly woman then launched an elbow into the man’s stomach, which loosened his grip.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t the end of it. She got inside but he followed, and the two of them met up with the thugs inside. She insisted they leave the home and grabbed her phone to dial 911. One of the men tried to interfere, but by that point the suspects decided it was best to leave.

You have to give the octogenarian credit for slamming the man with her elbow to break free. Although this story easily could have ended with the woman hurt of killed, her feisty nature was probably what convinced the gang to move on.
