Find sex offenders in your neighborhood, and remember Laura Garza
At just 25 years old , Laura Garza was working toward her dreams in New York City. She was an aspiring dancer, making ends meet as an assistant manager in a shoe store.
She was last seen Dec. 3, 2008, as she left a Manhattan night club. She was with Michael Mele.
He is a registered sex offender.
If I had to guess, I would say Laura didn’t know that.
Her bones were discovered two weeks ago, near Scranton, Pa.
Police do not yet have a cause of death. She was identified via DNA testing.
Mele has not been charged with a crime. He’s a suspect. He’s in prison today for violating the terms of his probation.
If you met a sex offender in your neighborhood, would you know it? Would there be a sign?
Would he act oddly, while you exchange small-talk about the weather?
Would you know something was amiss by the way he offered you a cold drink on a hot day?
Chances are good that you wouldn’t. Unless you already knew the sex offenders in your neighborhood. Had seen their photos and identified where they live in relation to you.
Identifying sex offenders in your local area could be the smartest thing you’ve ever done. For yourself and for your children.
